The Dentist

Today the girls had their very first dentist appointments!  Jocelyn has been asking when she was going to go to the dentist for 2 years, and finally she got to go!  I was so worried about where to take her, and if she would have a good experience, that I just kept putting it off.  I was afraid to take them to any "old" dentist because I was afraid they would have a bad or scary experience and then hate the dentist for the rest of their life.  Finally, I bit the bullet and made an appointment with a pediatric dentist.  It turned out to be a great experience for both of the girls.
This was Jocelyn after her cleaning was finished--she was sucking out the water that the tech used to wash off the fluoride from their teeth.  She was wearing sunglasses to help keep the light that shined into her mouth out of her eyes.
Clean teeth!
Jocelyn did an excellent job at the dentist!  When they first called her from the waiting room, they took her back by herself because she needed to have x-rays done.  She was a little hesitant, but she was brave and went all by herself.  I think I was more nervous than she was!  They said her teeth looked wonderful.  She didn't have any cavities and they told her that one of her bottom teeth was starting to get loose!  That was really exciting for her!  I was so proud of Jocelyn and how cooperative she was during her visit!
Reagan was ready to get her teeth cleaned too!
Reagan was in the room when Jocelyn got her teeth cleaned and was ready to climb up on the chair and get hers cleaned!  The dentist office told me that they usually only start seeing children at 3-years-old unless their is a problem, however they allowed me to schedule an appointment for her as well so we could get both of the girls done at once.  The tech didn't seem hopeful that she would be able to do much with Reagan's teeth, however, Reagan was an excellent patient.  She followed directions perfectly, and allowed the tech and dentist do all the things they needed to do.  They actually stated that she was the BEST 2-year-old they EVER had in the office!  I was so proud of her!
Look how tiny she was on that dental chair.  So cute!
Reagan after her cleaning was over!
I know I already said it, but I am SO proud of both of my girls.  They did such a great job at the dentist office!

Preschool Homework

Jocelyn had a homework project for school that she was really excited about.  She had to decorate a gingerbread person to hang in her class.  She wanted to make hers into a ballerina.  She was very proud of the final project!

Kid-A-Palooza

When you've got a kid you've got to Kid-A-Palooza, right?  The Kid-A-Palooza is an event that is held at the Convention center every year.  The girls had a lot of fun!
There was a special PrincessTent where Jocelyn got to meet Cinderella and Snow White!
Also in the Princess Tent, the girls got their make-up and hair done, and made a tiara.  Just look at Princess Reagan!
The Merry Go Round
Jocelyn got to ride on her favorite animal--the Zebra!  She was so happy!

Popular

Is it possible for a 5-year-old to be popular already?  If so, then I think Jocelyn is.  I don't want to seem braggy, but Jocelyn has a lot of friends and people seem to want to be near her and hang out with her all the time.  Last week, a little girl in Jocelyn's class gave her a Best Friends Forever clutch that she had colored.  Her mom told me that it came as a set and she wanted Jocelyn to have the matching one.  So sweet.  Then, this week, another one of the moms of Jocelyn's classmates told me that her daughter is always talking about Jocelyn and wanted to know if we could get together for a play date sometime! Earlier in the year another mom told me that her son really liked Jocelyn and that he insisted on doing everything with her while at school.  He had to sit next to her at snack, sit next to her at story time, etc.

Sometimes I feel more like her manager than her mother--haha--managing her various requests for play dates and lunch meetings.  She keeps me busy!

People seem drawn to Jocelyn. Even at a younger age, while she was still in PALS, the kids would line up at the snack table, standing with their snack in hand, waiting for the children sitting on either side of her to get up so that they could sit next to her.  I know that Jocelyn is a sweet little girl.  She is a good friend.  I think she really tries to treat other children how she wants them to treat her.  It comes naturally to her and I love that about her.  I hope she keeps the same attitude through her school years, and especially through her teenage years.  I hope she always remembers to treat everyone with respect and is nice to everyone she comes in contact with.  I hope it is always easy for her She is a people-person!  Our little sweetie!  :)

Toe Picker!

I guess picking her own toes wasn't satisfying enough (see here for a reminder).
Reagan moved on to picking other people's toes as well.
I only got a picture of her picking Jocelyn's toes, however, she went around to the whole family removing socks and spreading toes, looking for toe jam.

She is one funny girl!

A Conversation

The girls are sitting at the lunch table eating lunch.  I am in the kitchen.

Jocelyn:  "Reagan, what do you think you want to be when you grow up?"
Reagan:  (Pause) "Poop."
Jocelyn:  (Laughter)
Reagan: (Laughter)
Jocelyn: (Laughter) Well, then someone will flush you down the toilet!" (Laughter)
Reagan:  (Laughter)
Mommy:  (Laughter) "Okay, that's enough poop talk at the lunch table." (Laughter)
Jocelyn & Reagan:  (Giggles)

No More Crib...

I wasn't even over the shock that my baby girl decided she no longer wanted to wear diapers when Reagan decided that she was going to make all of her big-girl transitions at once.  For the first time ever,  Reagan climbed out of her crib.  Once they do that it's time to make the switch to a big-girl bed because you don't want to risk the fall from the top of the crib rail.  That fall would likely end with a child with a head injury or some sort of broken bone(s).  We were going to convert her crib to a toddler bed, however we still felt she needed a rail to keep her from falling out.  Those rails were just as expensive as the toddler bed I found on craigslist, so we decided to get rid of the crib completely and use her crib mattress in a toddler bed.  A twin-sized bed doesn't seem like a good option for her super-small room.  So here she was in her first night sleeping in her new big-girl bed.  Sigh.  My baby continues to grow up way too fast!

No More Diapers...

On January 8th, 2008 I changed the first diaper of my first born child.  On July 11, 2010 I changed the first diaper of my second born child.  There was a 6-month overlap where I was changing the diapers of both of my children.  Jocelyn potty trained about a month before her 3rd birthday, and I was back down to changing the diapers of only one child.  On January 11th, 2013, on the day Reagan was exactly 30 months old, I changed my last baby diaper (well, a baby diaper of one of my offspring I guess).  Later that day, Reagan pooped on her little port-a-potty and decided that she was no longer going to wear diapers.  Isn't that what always happens when you take a trip to Sam's Club and purchase a large box of diapers and a large box of wipes?  I changed baby diapers for 5 years and 4 days (or 1,831 days).  I can't even imagine exactly how many diapers that adds up to, but I can promise you that it was a lot.

It is bitter-sweet for me.  Knowing Reagan is my last child, I was in no rush to get her potty trained.  She decided it was time.  I'm not sure I was ready!  It didn't matter if I was ready or not because Reagan was.  She made her mind up and she was NOT going back.  She wanted nothing to do with diapers anymore!  She was a "big girl now" because she "poop on the potty".  We are all so proud of her, and especially proud of the ease of getting her used to using the potty rather than a diaper.  I guess when it is time, it's time!  She looks so cute in her hand-me-down (because-Jocelyn-had-some-but-never-wore-them-at-that-age) underwear.  The image that is so cute can also draw tears from this mommy, who can't believe her baby is growing up.  Like I said...it's bitter-sweet!  No more poopy diapers!!!

Homework

Jocelyn had a homework project that she was so very proud of.
Each child had to decorate a gingerbread person in any way they desired.  She wanted to make a ballerina gingerbread person, so we did!

PALS has become Reagan's place this year.
Jocelyn is now in Pre-school during PALS time, so Reagan goes on her own.  She always has a fun time!
