So, today Jocelyn and I went to Lowe's (to buy a new blind for our bedroom since I broke the one we had) and then went to Giant Eagle to buy something to make for dinner (grilled chicken salad). OK, so I bought
ice cream too...anyway, as I'm backing out of the parking spot another person pretty much right behind me is doing the same thing, and of course when that happens you crash into each other. I shouldn't say 'crash' because we were both going at a speed that wouldn't even register on the dashboard. It was a small bump. I pull back into a parking spot just to make sure the other person is
OK with me just leaving, but of course she's not. She tells me I made a mark on her car. I look and do indeed see a few marks on her car. She wants my insurance information. I get a closer look at her car and the "marks" that I made are already covered with touch-up paint.
Hmmm...I tell her I'm calling the police. There's no way I'm paying for her already marked-up bumper to be repainted. I dial 911 while the woman goes on and on about how she is so sick and tired of being hit into at shopping centers. Never during this whole time did I even think to myself that it wasn't my fault (but that doesn't mean that it was, right?). I called Todd while I was waiting for the police, and he tells me that it's not my fault-it's equally both of our faults because we were both backing up and bumped into each other. Why did I automatically take the blame? Maybe because the lady was about 40 years my elder. Maybe because I wasn't thinking. The police officer came and took our info (of course I didn't have my insurance card) and he said we would each just have to turn it into our insurance company, that this is a no fault accident...My husband is so smart, by the way. I just wanted to make sure the officer wrote in his report that the woman's car already had marks that were covered up so she couldn't try to blame me. What a mean old lady. She made me (and sleeping Jocelyn) sit in the parking lot (with
ice cream melting away) on an 80+ degree day waiting for the police just so MAYBE she would get away with having someone else pay for her already scratched up bumper. HOW RUDE!
