Summer Reading Kick-Off Party at Brentwood Library

We had a blast at tonight's Summer Reading Kick-Off Party at the library!  There were so many fun activities!

There was food to start off with, and then the events began!

The first event was a baby shoulder race.
Todd and Reagan won!  :)
The first event Jocelyn participated in was a sack race.

Jocelyn won!!  :)
Todd participated in his age group as well!
He won too!!!  :)
The second event was a "pie" eating contest.  Both Jocelyn and Reagan participated in their age groups for this one.  We didn't have any winners in our family, though.

Reagan got grossed out by her messy fingers and gave up.
Then the whole family participated in multiple balloon throwing contests...

Todd and I won!  :)

We had a very fun family night with friends...even if they were poor losers!  ;-)

Strawberry Picking

We went to Trax Farms for our 2nd annual strawberry-picking trip today!
We picked 11lbs of strawberries in no time at all!

A Haircut

Jocelyn was scheduled for a haircut yesterday.  She wanted it chin length and I was okay with that and thought it would look really cute.  I took her in and left with her hair looking like this:
I am SO upset!  How is this CHIN LENGTH?!?!?!

She has said that it's not the length she wanted, but is overall not upset by the cut, so she has no clue that I'm not happy about it.  She's cute with any hair, but still...I'm so upset!  This is TOO short!  It's going to take some time for this one to grow out!  Good bye ponytail! :(

Kids Say the Darndest Things Part 2

Today as I was driving the girls to play at the park, Jocelyn kept asking me if we were there yet.  After she asked for the 4th time I politely asked her to stop asking.  There was silence from the back seat, and after a few seconds she said, "If I had a SeatPet there would be no more asking when we would be there."  I just had to laugh.  Jocelyn wants anything she sees on an infomercial on TV.  Her latest obsession is this
I guess they must say during the commercial that kids don't worry about when they will be wherever they are going if they have a SeatPet.  Then she went on and on about the other features--like the zipper pocket, etc.  She's so funny...and I would bet money that it wouldn't actually work!  She keeps saying that her Grandma is going to get her one, however, she wouldn't be able to use it.  She's still in a 5-point harness--not a seat belt.  And by the time I allow her to sit unharnessed, with a seat belt she will likely be too old to be seen with one of these.

Dance Hair

Jocelyn's dance teacher requested curly hair for the recital.  I had never done curly hair on Jocelyn before, and was a little worried she would be the only girl there without it.  I bought foam curlers and tried them out.

She looked cute with the curlers in, but when I took them out there were no curls.  Failure.

I researched 'Perfect Dance Hair' on Google the night before and came across a website with a tutorial on Pin Curls.  It was my last hope.  I tried it out, and it actually worked!  I thought her hair turned out super cute!

She looked cute with the pin curls in too!

Jocelyn's Spring Dance Recital

Yesterday was Jocelyn's Spring dance recital.  As always, we were so proud of our little Jocelyn.  She even held the microphone and announced her name to the crowd!  She looked so cute up there dancing with her friends and did such a great job!
Ready for the show!

Afterwards we celebrated her performance with Ice Cream at Dairy Queen with Andrea and Reagan!

Kids Say the Darndest Things

Here are a couple of quotes from the girls that made me laugh this week:

Jocelyn: "Mommy, I really want to eat leftover pizza for lunch."
Me: "Okay, but there are only two pieces left, so you can only have one because Reagan will want pizza too."
Jocelyn: "Well, can you cut mine in half the long way? I REALLY want two pieces!"
Me: "Sure"

Whatever works...and that was simple enough!

Reagan had just woken up from her nap and came downstairs.
Me: "Well, hello Ray-bear!  Did you have a nice nap?"
Reagan: "Uh-huh.  Actually, I feel MUCH better!"

Reagan is getting over a cold and I had told her to get a good nap so that she could get rid of her cold and feel better.  I thought it was really funny that she used the word 'actually'.

Team Spirit

Team meeting after the game.  Jocelyn is #7

Creative Play!

I heard giggling in the backyard the other day and looked out the back window to see this:
It's always a problem when I can't be outside to push Reagan while Jocelyn swings.  Reagan always wants to swing too, but she can't pump like Jocelyn, so she can't swing by herself.  I don't know how the girls came up with this, but I think it's pretty creative.  The girls cross arms and hold on to each others swing and while Jocelyn pumps, Reagan's swing goes along with Jocelyn's.  I wasn't sure if I should allow it (is this dangerous??), but I watched for a while and it seemed okay.  The girls loved it!

The Monongahela Incline

Yesterday the girls got to ride the Monongahela Incline for the first time!
Jocelyn has been asking to ride it for as long as she has been able to see it out of the car window, and the day finally came when I decided to take her.  It was a cold day, only in the 60s, which felt especially cold after our recent temperatures in the upper 80s and the wind from being on a mountain, but we still had a nice little field trip with our friends Kim and Everett.

Up, Up, Up

A view of the city while going up the incline

Pretty steep tracks!

Homemade Pizza

We had homemade whole wheat pizza last night for dinner.
I'm getting better at making the crust...when I first started the crust was always too thick, but last night it was just right and the girls gave it a thumbs up!
